Funding of Doctoral Education and Quality Assurance

Hosted by Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden
                                       23-27 September 2012

From 23 to 27 September 2012, EUA offers a special opportunity to engage with three highly relevant issues for doctoral education: global trends, funding and quality assurance. In three separate but connected events, participants will have the chance to deepen their understanding of different aspects of doctoral education, from discussions about global developments to implementing local reforms in individual universities. It is a unique opportunity to engage in dialogue with many different stakeholders and to explore the continuous development of doctoral education.

The CODOC Final Conference will present the report that summarises the results of this Erasmus Mundus-funded project and explains trends in doctoral education in Asia, Latin America, Southern Africa and Europe. There will be speakers and participants from across the world examining the project‘s findings and discussing trends in doctoral education in Europe and beyond.

  • Participation will be based on a call for interest.

The EUA-CDE Annual Meeting will focus on the issue of funding doctoral education. It will present and critically examine different models of investment in doctoral education, illustrate the interplay between excellence and capacity building, and explore the internal costing of doctoral schools and programmes. The meeting will aim to provide a platform for dialogue between universities, funding organisations and other stakeholders.

  • Participation is open to all; EUA-CDE members will benefit from a reduced fee.

The ARDE Workshop is the final event in an EUA-coordinated project on quality management in doctoral education, supported by the European Commission’s  Lifelong Learning Programme. The workshop will be an opportunity to engage in discussions on the topic, share good practices with the different actors in the field and to formulate clear recommendations on how to ensure transparency and accountability in doctoral schools and programmes.

  • Participation is open to all; participants will be charged a fee.

Audience

The EUA Doctoral Week is open to all stakeholders concerned with doctoral education, such as Vice-Rectors, heads of doctoral schools, funding organisations and political actors. The specific events will also be of interest to heads of internationalisation, organisations involved in development activities, quality managers, directors of finance and quality assurance agencies.
