ATHENA Workshop Armenia
Fostering Sustainable and Autonomous Higher Education Institutions
Hosted by Yerevan State University, Yerevan, Armenia
6 March 2014
University autonomy and financial sustainability are key conditions enabling universities to fulfill their mission. Reforms of the governance and funding systems are therefore a crucial element in the modernisation of higher education. EUA’s work in this area is now taken up by the ATHENA project, which aims to contribute to the development, reform and modernisation of higher education systems in the partner countries Armenia, Moldova and Ukraine by fostering policy development at system-level and capacity-building at institutional level.
The ATHENA Workshop Armenia is a system-level event bringing together the main national higher education stakeholders, including university representatives and public authorities, to discuss university autonomy and funding in Armenia. The country workshop will take stock of the state of play, foster a national policy dialogue and formulate concrete recommendations to promote governance, autonomy and funding reforms in Armenia. International experts will discuss with Armenian participants the challenges and opportunities of the new higher education law and its implementation. The workshop will in particular focus on financial autonomy and its impact on the financial management of universities. One of the main outcomes of the workshop will be the development of concrete roadmaps for autonomy and funding reforms and their implementation at national level.
This country workshop is aimed exclusively at the national audience in Armenia. The event should be of interest to university leaders (rectors, vice-rectors, heads of administration etc.), university managers (notably finance directors, human resources managers), academic leaders (deans etc.), Ministry representatives, representatives of funding bodies and other people concerned with governance and funding reforms in higher education.
