Welcome Reception at the “Historical Building (UB)” with a performance by the “Castellers”

The Welcome Reception will be opened with a performance by the “Castellers”, (Human castle builders, creating structures using the strength of a group of people) done by university students, followed by drinks and light snacks. See here for more information.

Strength, balance, courage and ‘seny’ [reason], was written by Josep Anselm Clavé. These four ideas define a tradition with a history of over two hundred years, which is one the liveliest popular expressions of Catalan culture. “Castellers” were inlcuded in 2010 on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Optional Conference Dinner at "Drassanes Reials"

Drassanes Reials (Royal Shipyards) is an outstanding architectural building with 700 years of history situated in the historic centre of Barcelona. These gothic shipyards are an extraordinary piece of civilian architecture. Today the broad arches shelter the Museu Marítim, the city’s seafaring-history museum and one of the most fascinating museums in the city. Begun in the 13th century and completed by 1378, the long, arched bays (the highest arches reach 13m) once sloped off as slipways directly into the water, which lapped the seaward side of the Drassanes until at least the end of the 18th century. For more information, please visit the official website (in Spanish and Catalan only).

The Conference Dinner will be held in the Sala Comillas and will be served with the collaboration of The Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus of the University of Barcelona.
