To travel by bus you can purchase a card called “Kentkart”, which can also be used for the Izmir metro system, local trains and boats.
The card can be bought at the bus ticket offices or in some shops. Just look for the sign "Kentkart". You pay a small amount for the card and then add some credit to spend on your travels. You place the card on a scanner beside the driver and the cost is deducted from your total credit.
With the Kentkart, instead of paying the full fare of 3 Turkish Lira (1.10 euro), a journey on the bus, metro or ferry will cost you only 1.50 Turkish Lira (0.55 euro). The Kentkart requires an initial deposit of 3 Turkish Lira (1.10 euro).
Alternatively, you can purchase a three-ride electronic ticket for 5.75 Turkish Lira (2.10 euro) or a five-ride ticket for 9.75 Turkish Lira (3.58 euro).
