It is my great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 7th Thematic Workshop of EUA-CDE on“Outcomes of Doctoral Education - Mindset, Research, Innovation”, which will take place from 23 to 24 January, in Dokuz Eylül University, Izmir, Turkey.
Dokuz Eylül University (Izmir) has many reasons for hosting this exciting workshop:
It is one of the largest universities in Turkey, both with respect to undergraduate (63,472 students) and graduate education (8 056 students), the latter encompassing four graduate schools – natural sciences, health sciences, social sciences, and educational sciences, with a total number of 1 672 PhD candidates. All institutional programmes have been adapted to the Bologna Process, and the university has received the Bologna label.
Our university is renowned in Turkey and abroad for its reforms in doctoral education. The mission of doctoral education in Dokuz Eylül University is to train independent researchers with a scientific and innovative mindset, capable of transferring their knowledge and skills to different environments, globally. To this end, the university has made intensive efforts to collaborate with international organisations and institutions involving doctoral education. The university, besides being a member of EUA, has also been among the five institutional members of the EUA-CDE from Turkey, since 2008.
We believe that the 7th EUA-CDE Workshop will not only provide an excellent platform for interaction between outstanding European universities, but will also benefit universities in Turkey.
A vibrant social programme will provide an opportunity to explore the fascinating city of Izmir and other highlights of the historic Aegean Region of Turkey, including Ephesus. Izmir (the pearl of the Aegean) is continually growing as a centre of attraction among Turkish cities, being the third largest city of Turkey localised on the Aegean coast, with a history of thousands of years.
Dokuz Eylül University, with its energetic and enthusiastic team, will do its utmost to make your stay rewarding, and we very much look forward to welcoming you in Izmir in January 2014.
