NAIRTL’s initiative to support postgraduate supervisors in Irish Higher Education

16 December 2010

An initiative to provide support for supervisors of postgraduate research students is being developed in Ireland. The National Academy for Integration of Research and Teaching and Learning (NAIRTL) in Ireland has funded and helped coordinate this initiative, through a collaborative project between six Higher Education Institutions: University College Cork, Trinity College Dublin, National University of Ireland, Galway, Cork Institute of Technology, Waterford Institute of Technology and University College Dublin.

The six partners have developed a training framework for supervisors which deals with issues spanning the lifecycle of student supervision, i.e., from initial recruitment to exam preparation. The framework, which typically involves delivery of two to three full days of training workshops tailored to local practices and needs, aims to support institutions in implementing the Salzburg principles.
