Germany-based NGO awarded UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize

On 21 February 2017, the Germany-based NGO Kiron was awarded the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize recognising outstanding projects that make innovative use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in education for the benefit of disadvantaged groups.

Kiron won for its “Harnessing the Power of ICTs in Higher Education” project. The prize also went to the “Online School Project” by the Jaago Foundation in Bangladesh. 

The event took place at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Kiron was awarded for the outstanding work it has done to ensure equitable access to quality education for refugees. It carries out this work through its Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) which have benefitted more than 4,000 people. EUA endorsed Kiron for this award.
