12 July 2017

The End Female Genital Mutilation European Network has launched a free-of-charge online platform United to End FGM European Knowledge Platform, offering information and practical advice to professionals on female genital mutilation.

End Female Genital Mutilation Campaign

The knowledge platform includes an e-learning course available in nine languages, country specific information, as well as ‘live knowledge’ including webinars and an online discussion forum.

The e-learning course, developed by Cyprus University of Technology is designed to raise awareness of and improve knowledge about female genital mutilation amongst professionals from diverse sectors, including Health, Asylum, Law and Justice, Law Enforcement/Police, Education, Social and Child Protection, and the Media. The online course is also useful for NGOs, including women’s organisations and shelters that offer support and protection to women and girls affected by this act of violence. The e-learning course offers 13 modules in nine languages (Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish).

The knowledge platform also includes country specific information covering the 11 EU member states most affected by FGM, which is available in English as well as in the national language/s. The country specific information covers country data, legal frameworks, policies, milestones and practices, advice and support, resources and national focal points, as well as international and European conventions.

United to End FGM is the result of a transnational project funded by the EU and implemented by a consortium of 12 partner organisations and four associate organisations. It seeks to improve the public and professional knowledge on this issue to better prevent and address this specific form of violence against women and girls as defined in the Council of Europe Convention of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention).

The United to End FGM E-Learning course is supported by the UNHCR Global Learning Centre (Protection Unit) and the Bureau for Europe, European Police Academy (CEPOL), European Midwives Association (EMA), and the European Network of Migrant Women (ENMW).
