9th Thematic EUA-CDE Workshop: Call for Presentations

23 October 2015

The EUA Council for Doctoral Education (CDE) has published a Call for Presentations for the 9th CDE thematic workshop to be held at Delft University, the Netherlands, on 20-21 January 2016, entitled “Doctoral Supervision – practices and responsibilities”. The workshop will look at the supervisor-supervisee relationship, institutional practices and how to engage with supervisors.

cdeSupervision is a central and defining element of doctoral education. It is through supervised research that doctoral candidates develop a research mindset, and it is the supervisor-supervisee relationship that determines the experience of carrying out a doctorate. With professional management of doctoral education, supervision has become much more than an apprenticeship for research, and supervisors have more responsibilities than before. It is time to reflect on the nature of doctoral supervision, considering the main tasks of the supervisors and how these can be supported by institutions.

Proposals should give insights to successful and unsuccessful practices for doctoral supervision both from the perspective of university management as well as from the supervisors.

The annual thematic workshops organised by the EUA Council for Doctoral Education are open exclusively to EUA-CDE members.

For more information on how to submit a proposal, please click here. Deadline for abstracts is Monday, 16 November 2015. For further information on the event, click here.
