EFFECT, EQUIP and USTREAM – the three new EUA projects

06 November 2015

As from November 2015 EUA will participate in three new projects funded under the European Commission’s Erasmus+ programme.

EUA will coordinate the EFFECT (European Forum for Enhanced Collaboration in Teaching) project (2015-2018), which will facilitate the exchange of practices and experiences for teaching enhancement initiatives in different European countries, and assess the feasibility of establishing a European structure so as to continue beyond the duration of the actual project. EFFECT will also provide European-level policy recommendations in support of enhancing higher education teaching. The project will bring together 12 partners from eight countries: the European Students’ Union (ESU), the European Association for Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU), the European Trade Union Committee for Education (ETUCE), the national rectors’ conferences of Germany, Hungary, Ireland and Poland as well as higher education institutions in Finland, Latvia and Portugal and the UK-based Higher Education Academy (HEA).

EUA has become a partner in the EQUIP (Enhancing Quality through Innovative Policy and Practice) project (2015-2018), which aims to enhance quality in European higher education by supporting and promoting a consistent, efficient and innovative setting of the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) at grass roots level. The project will identify challenges and barriers to the implementation of the ESG, and work collaboratively with all stakeholders and policy makers to propose, share and discuss new solutions through a series of conferences, webinars and focus groups. EQUIP is being coordinated by the European Association of Institutions in Higher Education (EURASHE). Also part of the project consortium are the European Association of Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), the European Students’ Union (ESU), the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR), Education International, the Portuguese Polytechnics Coordinating Council and the University of Oslo.

Finally, EUA will also coordinate the USTREAM (Universities for Strategic, Autonomous and Efficient Management) project (2016-2019), which will examine measures in place in universities across Europe to enhance efficiency at operational level. In particular, the project will look at professional, operational and support services, academic matters and strategic governance. USTREAM will also include an analysis of policies at system level that support universities in their efforts to operate more efficiently, with a view to identifying good practice examples and developing recommendations to policy makers. EUA will carry out the project together with the Irish Universities Association, Universities UK and the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary.
