06 April 2017

“The Treaty of Rome after 60 years: Achievements and challenges of European higher education” was the theme of a major event organised by EUA member UNICA (Network of Universities from the Capitals of Europe) in Rome, Italy from 23 to 25 March 2017.

The event gathered high-level speakers including Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament and Federiga Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. They discussed how the European community as a whole and the European higher education sector have evolved since the signing of the Treaty. The event also focused on the role of universities in overcoming the threats currently faced by the EU.

EUA Secretary General Lesley Wilson was among the speakers. She gave a detailed presentation on the achievements of the European universities in the last sixty years.

The event was organised as part of the 60th anniversary commemorations and in the context of the UNICA Rectors Seminar 2017. It was hosted by EUA members Sapienza University of Rome, University of Rome Tor Vergata, Roma Tre University and Foro Italico University of Rome.
