Save the date: “European Universities in the Energy Transition: Towards a Clean Energy Future”, 23-24 October 2017, Brussels

13 July 2017

The European University Association through its European Platform for Universities in Energy Research & Education (EUA-EPUE) and the UNI-SET project, are organising the conference “European Universities in the Energy Transition: Towards a Clean Energy Future” on 23-24 October 2017, at the Flemish Parliament in Brussels, Belgium.

The conference will include the presentation of a forthcoming report entitled “Identifying New Paradigms in Energy Education and Research: An Action Agenda for Europe’s Universities”. The report will provide recommendations for universities, companies and policymakers for the design of energy education and research activities with the aim to address the skills gap between higher education provision and needs of the business sector for the energy transition.

It will be the sixth “Energy Clustering Event" and targets European policymakers, stakeholders and university leaders, providing a platform for dialogue on the current and future role of universities at the interface of Europe’s energy research and higher education policies. So far 500 participants from 30 countries representing more than 200 European universities have joined the events and discussions of the UNI-SET project or provided information in the European Atlas of Universities in Energy Research and Education.

The conference will highlight this contribution and mobilisation of universities towards the goals of the Energy Union and the SET-Plan and discuss how the momentum could be enhanced in the following years, following the publication of the 2016 Roadmap for European Universities in Energy. It will also be an opportunity to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan and debate how the future European Framework Programme (FP9) can support the linkage of research, innovation and education objectives in the field of energy.

Registration will be late July 2017.
