University policies and practices on Open Access across Europe 2016-17

25 October 2017

For the past three years EUA has been conducting a yearly survey to assess the degree of implementation of institutional policies and practices on Open Access across Europe.

The first results of the 2016-2017 survey are now published on occasion of the Open Access week 2017.

More than 300 European universities from 39 countries took part in the last edition of the survey which focused on open access to research publications and, for the first time, on research data management and on open access to research data. Initial results show that while the implementation of open access policies to research publications is in a relatively advanced state in European universities, policies and practices on research data management and on open access to research data are still scarce.

The EUA survey on Open Access has been developed together with the Expert Group on Science 2.0/Open Science, led by Professor Jean-Pierre Finance. A full report on the survey’s outcomes will be published later in 2017. The next, fourth edition of the EUA survey on Open Access is foreseen to take place during winter 2017-2018.
