In the past weeks, the European Commission (EC) has launched a public consultation on “Science 2.0” and published a staff working document that aims to provide guidance on synergies between the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF), Horizon 2020 and other research-related EU programmes. Around 300 representatives from universities, national and regional authorities, the EU institutions, and other research and innovation stakeholders gathered last week for a high-level conference in Brussels entitled “Mobilising Europe’s universities for Smart Specialisation”.

More than 250 participants, including 150 Arab and European university leaders, gathered from 10-12 June for the Second Arab-Euro Conference on Higher Education (AECHE) in Amman, Jordan.
