    With the EU Council having presented its position on the 2016 budget to the European Parliament on 8 September, EUA welcomes the widespread support in the Parliament for the Horizon 2020 programme from a series of committees, including the leading Committee on Budgets as well as the Committees on Industry, Research and Energy and Economic and Monetary Affairs.


    On 24-25 August 2015, the ASEAN and European Union Support to Higher Education in ASEAN Region (SHARE) project organised the first in a series of SHARE’s policy dialogues. High-level education officials, academicians and researchers from ASEAN Member States and other project stakeholders attended this two-day event which was held at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.


    The final event of the EUREQA project (“Empowering universities to fulfil their responsibility for quality assurance”) took place on Thursday 3 September 2015 at the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts, in Brussels, Belgium.


    EUA has published a new report examining current European trends in quality assurance (QA) in higher education. The report “ESG Part 1: Are universities ready?” outlines what is known about the current status of implementation of each standard of Part I of the current Standards and guidelines for quality assurance in the European higher education area (ESG).


    On 10 July 2015, the European Commission appointed three new members Margaret Buckingham, Michael Kramer and Silvio Micali to the ERC Scientific Council. Their mandate will be for four years.


    The EU Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) in Brussels that manages Eurydice has published a special report titled “The Organisation of the Academic Year in Higher Education, 2015/16” providing information on how the academic year in European universities is organised across 37 countries.
