lechProfessor Lech Dzienis graduated in 1976 from Lodz University of Technology with a Master of Science degree in Sanitary Engineering. In 1983 he was granted a Doctor of Philosophy degree. Presently he is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Bialystok University of Technology (BUT), Poland.

Professor Lech Dzienis was Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering (1996-2002) and the Deputy Rector (2008-2012) of BUT. In 2012, he was appointed as the Rector of BUT. He was also the Vice-President of The Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities of Technology (CRPUT) (2012-2016) and is now a Member of Presidium at the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland. 

Professor Lech Dzienis specialises in problems of waste water treatment plants and sludge utilisation. He was a scholar at the of University of South Florida and University of Connecticut (USA) and Moscow University of Civil Engineering (Russian Federation). Professor Lech Dzienis produced a series of innovative solutions and is the design engineer of more than 120 sewage treatment plants and sewage systems. In Poland, he pioneered the implementation of autothermic aerobic sludge digestion installations and innovative odor-control systems for sewage treatment plants.
